Inspired by Georges Seurat’s iconic painting A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte, this Pulitzer Prize winning masterpiece by Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine explores the tension between life, love, legacy, and the ongoing pursuit of artistic truth. One of the most acclaimed musicals of the modern era, Sunday in the Park with George blends past and present in a deeply moving meditation on what it means to create and to be seen.

The first act follows the young painter Georges Seurat in the final days leading up to the completion of his most famous work. As he pushes the limits of form and color, Seurat struggles to balance his consuming artistic vision with his relationship with his lover, Dot. Amid criticism from the artistic community, his innovations grow even as his personal life fractures.

In Act Two, a century later, Seurat’s descendant named George and also an artist faces his own creative crisis. Burnt out and searching for direction, he discovers that the key to his future can be found by looking to the past.

A poetic, layered, and profoundly human theatrical experience, Sunday in the Park with George honors the courage it takes to make art and the cost and beauty of that devotion.
