Theatre games, improvisation and acting exercises are the bedrock of acting skill. This approach, proven in such crucibles as Stanislavski’s Moscow Art Theatre and refined in the USA’s own Group Theatre of the 1930’s under the leadership of Harold Clurman, Lee Strasberg and Stella Adler, has revolutionized theatre practice in our own country and the world over. For novices the games and exercises emphasize learning through experience. Playing the theatre game is the true teacher. Focusing on such basic problems as Where (immediate, general and larger stage environments, Who (relationship, e.g. mother-Daughter, Coach-player) and What (reason for being in the where), participants will evolve a common vocabulary of exercises and a clear and usable working process. More than a few of David Braucher’s students — as actors, directors, teachers, producers) — work constantly here and abroad. They frequently attest to the solid foundation in craft they acquired using games and improvisations in David ‘s workshops and productions. Now a resident of Greenwich, David looks forward to introducing the class to the fun and excitement of acting.
