Open to ages 16 and up, the second half of the semester will rotate between Yin and Restorative Yoga.

Yin Yoga consists of poses primarily done on the floor and held for a longer period of time, usually 2-5 minutes or longer. The approach to posture in Yin is different from other yoga classes which will typically activate different muscle groups to bring a posture into its full expression. With Yin, gravity is used to hold a pose in place. With the muscles relaxed, yin postures target deep fascia, ligaments, and joints.

Restorative Yoga is a practice that helps the body integrate and heal. It is a quiet practice that harnesses the power of stillness with poses being held for around 5 minutes or longer. The intention is to promote the deepest level of relaxation and alleviate the effects of stress in our lives. Restorative yoga differs from other forms of yoga, in that the goal of restorative yoga is not to stretch or strengthen muscles but to tap into the body’s natural resources to establish self-regulation and equilibrium.
